It was in July 1419 when this volcanic island was first discovered by Portuguese explorers. She was colonised only in 1425. As to develop agriculture, a part of the forest had to be deforested and a large number of water channels (levada) were built. Wine and sugar was the mainstay of the island but over the years, tourism has become the engine of the island's economy.

I went to Madeira with my familie from 4/08/2017 to 18/08/2017. The first day, I woke up at 3:45 am for going to the Nantes's aerport. We came to Madeira at 10:10 am and we rented a car. The house where we have spent this journey is next to Calheta. It's a little house with a beautiful view of the sea and of Calheta. We have visited Funchal and her botanical garden on day two. We took the cable railway for going to the garden. I like this garden because there is a diversity of flora and I like in particular the one with Inspiration of the Chinese gardens. After we went back to Funchal and we have visited the santa maria street. All the doors of this street was painted and there is many restaurants like "O jango" where we ate many times. On alternate days, we went to the beach and this third day we did a drive up to Jardim do mar. Next day, we went to Rabacal for hiking. We saw waterfalls and the site of the 25 sources. There was also levada ( is an irrigation channel or aqueduct specific to the Portuguese Atlantic regions of Madeira and the Azores ). At the end of this hike we saw cow's photos of wich i took. The sixth day, we went to the Madeira's north where we have hiked next to levadas and after we went to visit Porto Moniz. This city is famous for its natural swimming pool. The eighth day we went to sao lorenzo's point. It was very different to the other hike, it's ones of my favourite. After a morning of hike we went to Prainha's beach but I thought this was too noisy. Next day It was the most fabulous day of my journey because it was the first time that i saw wilds dolphins. We do not have to swim with her because there was young dolphins. The tenth day , this was the hardest hike. It was just 7.2 km but it was a drop of 500 m. Although I very like this hike because we had beautiful views and there is many waterfalls. The last hike was to Pico Ruivo. It's the second highest peak in Madeira. When we have arrived at the top we had a beautiful view above the clouds and this is why it is my favourite hike of this journey. The last two days, we went back to jardim do mar and to Funchal. The friday, august 18th was the last day in Madeira and we took the plane at 10:45 am for arrived in France at 16:00.

To sum up this journey, I discovered several culinary specialisaties, religious festivities and similarly the Madeira's culture. I have also appreciated a very diversified flora and fauna.
